NEWPORT BEACH & SAN DIEGO BOTOX
Botox has successfully helped thousands of people say goodbye to their wrinkle problems. The injectable solution, FDA-approved for the removal of wrinkles in the upper portion of the face, can provide patients with smoother skin and a rejuvenated, rested, more youthful appearance.
Common areas of cosmetic treatment, and areas for which the FDA has given its approval, include the horizontal lines in the forehead, the vertical lines between the eyebrows, and the smile lines, or crowsfeet, at the outer corners of the eyes. Botox has also been used as an off-label treatment for health conditions, such as excessive sweating and migraines. Botox use for these situations, however, should be explored only after more conservative options have been attempted and the risks involved have been discussed in detail with your doctor.
Botox treatments are relatively simple, taking only about 15 minutes to perform, depending on the number of areas being treated. A slightly diluted amount of Botox is injected into the area through a fine needle. The Botox effects the muscle that controls the wrinkles, and causes it to relax. As this muscle relaxes, its grip on the skin is lessened, and the skin is subsequently less tight. This causes the wrinkle to flatten out, and leaves a smoother, replenished skin surface.
The area of treatment will probably be slightly red afterwards, but most patients are able to return to work or other daily routines right away. The effects of Botox are not immediately apparent, but usually take roughly 3-8 days to develop. They can then last for about 3-6 months or so. As patients attend multiple Botox appointments, the results tend to last longer with each subsequent visit, so repeat treatments become necessary less frequently.
As is the case with any cosmetic procedure, there are some potential risks associated with Botox injections. Some of these risks include temporary headaches, droopy eyelids, or flu-like symptoms. Be sure to discuss the potential of such effects with your doctor before having the treatment.
